Oink.

Welcome to my blog. I write about food and drink at home in Dorset and on my travels. Happy reading!

Guild of Food Writers - I'm in!

Guild of Food Writers - I'm in!

I was so excited to get the news last week that the committee voted me in as a member of the Guild of Food Writers. I am in such esteemed company, with nearly 500 professional authors, broadcasters, columnists and journalists among its members.

As a generalist copywriter at Messagelab Communications, I write about everything from whisky, dairy farms and wedding photography to superyacht protection, cathedral spires and clinical parasitology. But the subjects that really float my boat are food and drink and travel. So as well as writing this blog (for fun, purposely not for profit or freebies), I’ve been enjoying getting back to my journalistic roots and writing more foodie editorial features.

I’m hoping that being a member of the Guild will bring new opportunities, even if I’m not sure what they’ll be yet. (Will I eat out more? Will I finally understand wine like a grown-up? Will I become a more accomplished cook? Will I need to buy clothes in a bigger size? Will I ever stop with the food doodles)?

This self-portrait pretty much sums up what’s on my mind a lot of the time (y’know, along with lockdown, health, world peace) although the items do rotate. Today I’m dreaming of oozy grilled cheese and marmite sandwiches and scotch eggs - not necessarily together. You?
